In later political and geographic terms, the place of her birth is now situated within what is known as Bangladesh, specifically in the Brahmanbaria district. Thus, her origin can be understood as resting at a historical crossroads: born in British India, in Bengal, yet remembered today as hailing from a village that lies within the boundaries of modern Bangladesh.
