Accounts of Asaṅga’s encounter with the bodhisattva Maitreya describe a pivotal moment for both his personal path and the emergence of the Yogācāra tradition. After many years of intensive, seemingly fruitless meditation, Asaṅga is said to have received direct teachings from Maitreya, either through profound visionary experience or by ascending to Tuṣita Heaven.
